Vocabulary- The Book Thief

In my book The Book Thief, there were someone words that I didn't understand very well.  Some of the words that I didn't understand very well were words like immersed and meek.  From the context clues for immersed which was, "The one in his hand he immersed himself in, chewing and gulping, forcing it down the dry corridor of his throat" (Zusak 140).  I thought that immersed men't devoured or pushed in, and it turned out to mean plunged or sunk it, so I was close on guessing.  Also when I looked at the context clues for meek it said, "He could only imagine a meek attempt and a mouthful of broken teeth.  For hours, he felt at them" (Zusak 141).  I thought after reading this that meek men't a small or tiny glance of something.  I actually found out after reading this that meek means to be overly submissive or complaint.
